LAURA H. VIADA CLASS PROPOSAL
Topic: Understanding Color
Do you ever wonder why you don’t get the color results you expect in your handwoven or other fiber
projects? Or why that lovely hand-painted roving or yarn doesn’t look at all the same once it’s spun or knitted? Do you wish you could mix dyes with consistently predictable results? Any why is it sometimes so difficult to choose commercially dyed materials to fit a particular palette? This workshop is geared toward fiber artists, but should help artists working in any medium take a giant step forward in learning how to deal with color in their projects. Through a
series of exercises using Color Aid paper, fiber, and acrylic paints, students will learn the basics of color theory and the principals of both pigment and optical color mixing. This workshop is designed to be fun and relaxing, but
jam-packed with useful information for fiber and other artists.

Student Materials Fee: $20, covers paints, drawing paper, palette paper, palette knives, Color Aid paper, fiber, and handout.

Student Supplies: Scissors, glue stick, and note-taking materials. Paints can get messy, so wear old clothes.

Equipment Needs: Projection screen, dry erase board or flip chart and markers, a couple of tables for instructor’s supplies.
