T.J. Sabula, an employee at a Ford manufacturing facility, reportedly shouted that Trump is a "pedophile protector" as the president toured the River Rouge plant. This bold statement sparked a notable reaction from Trump, who apparently responded with a middle finger gesture, as captured in a video released by TMZ, which also suggested that Trump uttered some choice words before making the gesture.
During a subsequent interview with The Washington Post, Sabula reflected on his actions, stating, "I have absolutely no regrets about calling him out." However, he also voiced concerns regarding the potential repercussions for his job, alleging that he had become a target for political retribution and was being punished for embarrassing Trump in front of his associates. He emphasized, "I don’t feel as though fate looks upon you often, and when it does, you better be ready to seize the opportunity. And today I think I did that."
In light of his suspension without pay, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to help Sabula and his family manage their financial obligations during this uncertain period. As of Wednesday morning, the campaign had raised over $70,000, attracting support from various donors, including the band Dropkick Murphys. The GoFundMe page highlights Sabula's role as a devoted father of two, husband, and proud member of United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 600, noting that the funds will assist him in navigating this challenging time.
Ford has yet to provide a comment on the situation. Meanwhile, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung did not confirm whether Trump indeed made the middle finger gesture but described the president’s reaction as an "appropriate and unambiguous response" to what he termed a "lunatic" yelling profanities in a fit of rage.
