Charley Crockett's Generous Gesture: Offering His Grammy Nomination to The Turnpike Troubadours (2026)

Imagine this: A musician, nominated for a prestigious Grammy Award, offers their spot to another artist. Sounds unbelievable, right? Well, that's exactly what happened in the world of country music when Charley Crockett, nominated for Best Traditional Country Album, offered his nomination to the Turnpike Troubadours.

This surprising gesture came after the Grammy nominations were announced on November 7th, 2025. Many fans were stunned that the Turnpike Troubadours' album, The Price of Admission, wasn't among the nominees. It felt like a glaring omission, with many believing they deserved a nomination, if not the win. The actual nominees included Margo Price, Zach Top, Lukas Nelson, Willie Nelson, and Charley Crockett. While it was a strong field, the absence of the Turnpike Troubadours was the main topic of conversation.

Then, on November 16th, Crockett took to social media and made the bold offer. He stated that he was offering his nomination to the Turnpike Troubadours, acknowledging they deserved it. He also added that without Evan Felker, the frontman of the Turnpike Troubadours, he might not have even been nominated in the first place. He went on to say, "And besides, Evan Felker’s the best damn songwriter of all of us. See, Texas and Oklahoma can get along.”

Crockett even shared a story of how Felker played a pivotal role in his career. He mentioned handing out CDs at Gruene Hall, where he met Felker. Felker listened to the CD, and it led to Crockett getting booked for shows.

But here's where it gets controversial... Can a Grammy nomination actually be transferred? Probably not. It's a bit like when Dolly Parton was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and tried to withdraw, but was inducted anyway.

This move by Crockett is a classy one, and it's possible that a vote for Crockett could be seen as a vote for the Turnpike Troubadours. He credits Evan Felker and the Troubadours for helping to launch his career.

And this is the part most people miss... The band's exclusion from the nominations felt like a real loss.

UPDATE: Evan Felker responded to Crockett's offer, saying any success in Crockett's world is a win for them. He thanked Crockett for his kind words and told him to enjoy the nomination.

Voting for the Grammy Awards runs from December 12th to January 5th, with the awards ceremony taking place on February 1st, 2026.
