Conor Benn is clearly eager to set up a bout with Shakur Stevenson, but he has one crucial demand: "Be prepared!" This fight could be on the horizon if both fighters can align on the terms.
Just recently in New York, Stevenson made headlines by becoming the fastest boxer to win titles in four different weight classes. He achieved this remarkable feat by delivering a dominant performance against Teofimo Lopez, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Following the match, Benn, fresh off a win against Chris Eubank Jr. at middleweight, responded positively after Stevenson called him out from the ring. Stevenson expressed his willingness to compete at welterweight, proposing a rehydration clause for the fight.
However, Benn's initial reaction to this stipulation was clear: he was not on board with the idea of weighing only 10 pounds above the 147-pound limit on the day of the fight. This condition was previously applied to Eubank Jr. during their two encounters, yet Benn seemed reluctant to accept it for himself.
In an unexpected twist, Benn later modified his stance in a video featured by State of Boxing. He stated that he would agree to the rehydration clause, but only if he received adequate financial compensation. Furthermore, he asserted that Wembley Stadium should be the venue for their showdown.
"Hey Shakur, Wembley, let’s get it locked in. If you want the rehydration clause, you better be ready to pay up. No doubt, I’m still going to give you a run for your money. This would be my first fight at 147 in three years, and I’m ready to take you on!"
This development opens the door for their potential matchup, although it’s important to note that Benn is also eyeing a clash with WBA Welterweight World Champion Rolando Romero and the victor of the upcoming fight between WBC titleholder Mario Barrios and Ryan Garcia. Promoter Eddie Hearn has indicated his desire to see Benn compete for a world title in his next bout.
