Google's AI Mode homepage has undergone a transformation, introducing a unique greeting and an innovative model switcher. Say goodbye to the generic "Meet AI Mode" and hello to a personalized welcome: "Hi [Your Name], what's on your mind today?" Your name even gets a fun gradient animation as the page loads, making it feel extra special.
But here's where it gets controversial... For Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, the 'plus' menu has an exclusive addition. Along with the existing options like Upload Image and Create Images, there's now a "Models" picker. This allows users to choose between "Auto" and "Thinking (3 Pro)". The latter even comes with a stopwatch icon, indicating that responses might take a bit longer, adding an element of anticipation.
And this is the part most people miss... The previous picker/dropdown menu still exists in the top-left corner, providing clear descriptions for each option. "Auto" adapts to your needs, while "Thinking with 3 Pro" offers complex reasoning and generative layouts. It's a subtle yet powerful difference.
Additionally, the AI Mode history side panel now has a "Search" feature for your Recent threads, making it easier to navigate your AI journey. These updates, however, are currently exclusive to the desktop web version and haven't made their way to mobile apps yet.
While there are no immediate updates for Android and iOS, iOS users can now access their history more conveniently in the top-left corner of the Google app. It's a small change, but it shows Google's commitment to enhancing the user experience.
