A Night to Remember: Isaiah Collier's Assist Record Shines Bright
In a thrilling NBA encounter, Isaiah Collier etched his name in the record books with a remarkable 22 assists, the highest in the league this season and a feat not seen in Utah since the legendary John Stockton's era. But here's where it gets controversial... Collier achieved this with just seven healthy teammates by his side!
The Jazz, despite trading away key players earlier that day, dominated the Indiana Pacers 131-122. Lauri Markkanen led the scoring with 27 points, but it was Collier's all-around brilliance that stole the show. Every Jazz player contributed at least 14 points, with Collier also chipping in 17.
And this is the part most people miss... The last player to match Collier's assist count was Nikola Jokic of Denver, almost a year ago! Collier's performance was even more impressive considering he played the entire game.
The Pacers, without four regular starters, put up a fight with Quenton Johnson and Jarace Walker both scoring 24. However, it wasn't enough to stop the Jazz's momentum.
Little-used Kam Jones, making his first career start, showed glimpses of promise with 12 points. Meanwhile, the Jazz missed the services of Keyonte George, Kevin Love, and Walker Kessler due to injuries, with Jusuf Nurkic also unavailable due to illness.
Stockton's shadow loomed large over the game, as his 22-assist performance in 1992 was a reminder of the Jazz's rich history. Stockton, a Hall of Famer, had several games with 23 or more assists, including a career-high 28.
The Jazz now head to Atlanta, while the Pacers travel to Milwaukee. Both teams will be hoping to build on this exciting encounter.
What do you think? Is Collier's performance a sign of things to come, or was it a one-off? Let us know in the comments!
