Get ready for a juicy tale from the world of metal music! The challenges of working with a legendary frontman.
In a recent podcast interview, former DEICIDE guitarist Jack Owen opened up about his experience in the band, and it's a story that sheds light on the complexities of creative collaborations.
When asked about his time with Glen Benton, the iconic frontman of DEICIDE, Owen revealed, "It was tough, really tough. We just couldn't connect on a personal level. I'm an introvert, focused on my work, while Glen... well, let's just say we had different approaches to life and music."
But here's where it gets controversial... Owen explained that despite their contrasting personalities, he got along famously with the other band members. "I had an amazing rapport with Steve [Asheim] and Kevin [Quirion]. We were a tight-knit group, except for Glen. It's almost funny how we all clicked, except for the one person!"
And this is the part most people miss... Owen's departure from DEICIDE was a result of creative differences. He shared, "I walked into practice one day, and Steve had changed my songs without my consent. It was a shock, and Glen's reaction didn't help. I felt disrespected, so I left."
However, Owen's musical journey didn't end there. In 2017, he joined forces with his ex-bandmate Chris Barnes in SIX FEET UNDER, proving that sometimes, a change of scenery is exactly what an artist needs.
So, what do you think? Are creative differences an inevitable part of the music industry? Or can they be overcome with better communication? Let's discuss in the comments!
