O'Neill emphasized, "Celtic is a big club with big European ambitions. We aim to compete in the highest level of European football."
And this is the part most people miss... O'Neill's return coincides with a critical juncture in Celtic's season. After the disastrous eight-game tenure of Wilfried Nancy, the club finds itself in a transition phase.
The previous regime, led by Paul Tisdale, brought in some interesting signings like Julian Araujo, but O'Neill fears they might not be up to the standard required for a club with Celtic's pedigree.
In a bold move, O'Neill also provided an update on his pursuit of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a free agent and former Arsenal and Liverpool star. Despite Chamberlain's current training stint with Arsenal, O'Neill hasn't lost hope of luring him to Celtic.
"Oxlade-Chamberlain's experience would be a massive boost. He faced challenges in Turkey, but his skills and leadership could be invaluable for us."
