Imagine diving into the iconic world of Mortal Kombat, only to find your perfectly timed combos ruined by frustrating input lag. That's the reality for many PlayStation players who recently picked up the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. While the collection launched to glowing critical reviews, the player experience hasn't been as smooth, particularly for those on Sony's consoles.
Digital Eclipse, the developers behind the collection, recently released a hotfix update (https://www.eventhubs.com/news/2025/nov/04/mortal-kombat-kollection-patch-notes/) aimed at addressing the input lag issue plaguing PlayStation users. But here's where it gets controversial: despite the update, the improvement seems marginal, leaving many fans disappointed and questioning whether it was enough.
Initial tests revealed significant input lag discrepancies across platforms, with PlayStation consoles bearing the brunt of the issue. Nigel 'Noodalls' Woodall (https://x.com/noodalls/), a renowned tester, measured a staggering 101 ms of latency on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions—equivalent to roughly 6.3 frames of lag. In contrast, the Xbox Series X version boasted a much smoother 44 ms (2.75 frames), while the PC release achieved an impressive low of 18.35 ms (1.15 frames). Even the Nintendo Switch 2, often criticized for performance, fared better with 66.25 ms (4.14 frames).
After the update, Noodalls retested the PlayStation versions, finding a slight reduction in lag. The PS5 version now registers at 83.42 ms (5.21 frames), and the PS4 version running on PS5 shows similar results. While this is a step in the right direction, it's still nearly double the latency of the Xbox version. And this is the part most people miss: even with the improvement, PlayStation players are still at a noticeable disadvantage in competitive play.
Here’s a breakdown of the latest findings:
PS5 Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection
- 90.91ms (83.42ms at top of screen with 8.33ms screen draw)
PS4onPS5 Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection
- 91.18ms (83.68 at top of screen)

This translates to roughly a 1-frame reduction post-patch, which, while welcome, isn't enough to level the playing field. Is this a case of too little, too late? Some players seem to think so, as reports emerge of Sony offering refunds for the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection (https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/1on84pu/igotarefundforthemortalkombatlegacy/). Given Sony's strict no-refund policy for digital purchases, this suggests a significant number of players have reached out to customer support, frustrated by the ongoing issues.
Digital Eclipse hasn't abandoned the fight, though. They've released a Quickfix update for the Steam version, addressing online crashes and desync issues, and rolled out the hotfix for Xbox as well.

While regular updates are promising, the question remains: will PlayStation players ever see parity with other platforms? What do you think? Is the input lag a dealbreaker, or are you willing to wait for further improvements? Let us know in the comments below!
