Deirdre Gillespie (nee McDermott), a beloved figure in the Midwest Radio community, passed away peacefully at the North West Hospice in Sligo on December 10, 2025, after a brief illness. Born in Powellsborough, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo, Deirdre was a source of inspiration to many, known for her courage and dignity in the face of adversity. She was predeceased by her parents, Christina and Séamus, and will be deeply missed by her heartbroken family, including her children Ciara, Aoife, and Ruairí, her husband Pauric, her siblings Rufina and Michael, and her many nephews and nieces. The loss has left a void in the hearts of her relatives, neighbors, friends, colleagues, pupils, and the extended McDermott and Gillespie families.
Deirdre's passing is a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. Her family requests that you join them in remembering her life and legacy. Deirdre will repose at her home in Powellsborough (F91 WIR9) on Friday, December 12th, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and 6:30 to 9:00 pm. The removal from her residence on Saturday morning, December 13th, will lead to St. Patrick's Church in Moylough for the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Rhue Cemetery.
A one-way system will be in operation, with entry from the N17 road at Cashel (F91 PD30) and exit onto the Tubbercurry/BallyMOTE road.
