Penrith's Rheged Gallery Celebrates 25 Years with a Star-Studded Exhibition
The Rheged gallery in Penrith is gearing up to celebrate its silver anniversary with a special exhibition showcasing the talent of 25 artists. This diverse group of artists has been carefully selected from across Cumbria, offering a rich tapestry of artistic styles and mediums.
Among the featured artists are some familiar faces, having previously displayed their work at the gallery, while others are emerging stars on the local art scene. The exhibition, titled 'Twenty Five & Onwards', draws inspiration from Rheged's inaugural show, 'Twelve', which featured a dozen artists. The gallery wanted to honor the incredible artists who have contributed to its success over the years, according to the organizers.
"This exhibition is a testament to the past and a glimpse into the future of art in Cumbria," said curator Claire Harrison. "It's a celebration of the incredible talent that has graced our walls and a look forward to the exciting possibilities that lie ahead."
One of the featured artists, Derek Eland, praised Rheged for its commitment to showcasing contemporary artists from Cumbria. "Rheged has never shied away from providing a high-quality platform for artists to exhibit their work, even when it challenges conventional norms," he said. Eland's own contributions include a series of captivating Lakeland landscapes and pieces inspired by his time spent in Ukraine.
The exhibition is open to the public, free of charge, and will run until February 1st. It's a must-see for art enthusiasts and anyone interested in the cultural landscape of Cumbria.
