A fiery incident involving Tesla vehicles in China has sparked concern and raised questions about vehicle safety. On November 15, a flatbed truck carrying new Tesla cars stacked on two levels caught fire on a highway in Zhejiang province, China. Footage from a passing car shows approximately 10 Teslas on the truck, with half of them engulfed in flames. A thick black smoke cloud rising several meters into the air can be seen from a distance. The Huzhou Traffic Management Center confirmed that the incident occurred on a highway in Huzhou, Zhejiang, and that no casualties were reported. The Huzhou Fire Department successfully extinguished the fire, and local authorities are investigating its cause. This incident comes on the heels of a recent recall of around 10,500 units of Tesla's Powerwall 2 battery power systems in the U.S. due to fire hazards after 22 reports of overheating. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned that affected systems 'may fail and overheat,' posing a risk of serious injury or death, although no injuries have been reported. Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is pressing the U.S. EV maker over rising cases of defective Tesla door handles, which prevent doors from opening and trap parents and children inside vehicles.
